I went on a 5,5 week family trip to Japan in sep-oct 2024. In one of the first weeks of the trip, I took a course at Workshop Kurogane in the making of traditional tamahagane steel.
The workshop is located in the beautiful countryside, by a river, on the southern end of Shikoku.
We smelted 25kg of beach sand magnetite in the tatara furnace and I came home with 1,4kg tamahagane steel in total.
